Prof. Jielian Zheng is an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and a professor of Guangxi University. He has long been engaged in construction technology innovations of arch bridges. ln 1968, he firstly proposed the non-bracket construction technology for hyperbolic arch bridges in China, which solved the historic problem of constructing arch bridges without floor-stand support. Also, he has made significant breakthroughs in instantaneous and permanent stresses regulation of steel-reinforced concrete (SRC) arch bridges occurred in the process of arch ring concrete pouring. The proposed technologies of Prof. Zheng intensively support the successful construction of the world's longest CFST arch bridge and SRC arch bridge in main span, and therefore he is well acknowledged to have made great contributions to the high-quality and high-speed development of these two types of arch bridges worldwide. Owe to predominant technical innovations, he has been awarded several national and international awards including three National Science and Technology Process Awards and the national innovation medal of China. In 2022, he has been awarded the first Guangxi Highest Science and Technology Award.
